BEIJING, August 25 (TMTPOST) -- The combined intensity of regional heat events from June 13 this year has reached the strongest level since 1961 based on all the meteorological observation records, according to the National Climate Center"s recent monitoring and assessment.

Sichuan, Chongqing and other regions in China recently were hit hard by serious drought, affecting more than 6 million people in around 20 cities and 125 counties in Sichuan.

The person in charge of the State Grid Corporation said that their work in the peak season of summer is coming to the most critical stage with the current high temperature continuing, in order to effectively grasp the power supply measures in place to ensure a safe and stable power supply.

Since this year, the coal mine project advanced production capacity of 37.7 million tons / year has been approved, and the production capacity has been adjusted to 9 million tons / year, and trial production capacity has been promoted to about 70 million tons per year, leading to the first seven months of coal production to increase by more than 10% year-on-year, the relevant person in charge of the National Energy Administration of China (NEA) said. At present, the national coal inventory is generally adequate, reaching a record high of more than 170 million tons, available for about 23 days.

At the recent meeting, NEA requires to strengthen the supervision and management of coal power units and non-stop supervision, so that the production capacity could be ensured. It said that the next step is to continue to deal with extreme heat and drought in Sichuan and Chongqing areas to ensure a stable supply of electricity. Priority should be put on giving full play to the platform advantages of the large power grid, strengthening unified scheduling, and making every effort to alleviate the power supply tension in Sichuan and Chongqing. It is important to resolutely and vigorously implement the program of orderly power consumption, and ensure power supply and grid security in Sichuan and Chongqing.

It is expected that in the second half of the year, energy consumption will continue to show continuous growth, and the demand for coal, natural gas and electricity will further increase after entering the peak season of winter. The energy industry will enhance supply capacity. NEA will continue to do its best to meet the power supply in the peak season of summer and winter, and resolutely prevent "pulling the plug on electricity" to ensure economic and social development and people"s livelihoods.
